Investment in You for Healthy Living

Hey chef rich here from 1PL8 kitchen, where we cut through all the nonsense, and use our kitchens as our pharmacy and our food as our greatest medicine. With our faith in Jesus we believe all people are of infinite value, education and empowerment at the family or individual level is critical, and we strive to serve the whole person–Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Today I want to talk about the importance of self-investment.

It’s probably one of the most important things you can do for yourself. However, it requires your time, your commitment, ample energy and persistent follow through.

Now before you get all, “I can’t do that, it’s too much” on me remember this, the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.

The best way to reach your self-investment goals is to approach it in smaller planned steps, reducing anxiety and stress, and allowing you to overcome your fears through confidence.

Now since I have your attention and you know you can do this what are the smaller steps.

Depending on your goals you’ll need to develop the skills required to accomplish that goal. For instance I want to learn to eat healthy and stop wasting money at the drive through.

Sounds like a reasonable obtainable goal except for 1 small thing.

I can’t cook, I can burn water, my toast is always charred, and my friends always complain about my smoke flavored rice.

I hope my examples have painted the picture of how difficult it would be for me to eat healthy at home with no cooking skills.

No worries because now we have identified and opportunity to develop a skillset that will enable me to reach my goals.

How do we do that, we start taking some cooking classes, with chef rich and start watching his videos and show. We email him questions and become part of the 1PL8 family.

Doing all these things will allow me to reach my goal of eating healthy at home, with an additional gain of saving money.

The next 2 work hand in hand. First would be to treat yourself like a very valuable gem. Most people treat materialistic or physical items better than they treat themselves. And that’s not good.

You must treat yourself better than anything else. You have to acknowledge and accept that you are priceless.

We only get 1 go around in life and we must take care of the body we have as well as the controlling mind.

What we tell ourselves in our minds is what we become, so if you continue to say you’re not gonna be able to do this, or this will never happen for me, or I can never get healthy.

Then, it’s like a genie, your wish is my command. You will never get healthy.

You have to give yourself a chance and support yourself. You have to become your own cheerleader and stay committed to you. You have to have to be persistent with your follow through.

Second is one of my favorites, even though I don’t do it as much as I would like to. It is dressing and looking sharp. Since we are such good friends, we can be very honest with each other. I love to look at men’s fashion magazines and admire seeing people dressed up and taking pride in their appearance.

My entire wardrobe consists of these grey cooking shirts as well as chef jackets. I am always in the kitchen cooking or doing demos and shows so have very limited choices.

But when I do get the chance to go out and dress up, watch out, because I don’t know what to wear and don’t really have any fancy clothes, so I put on some jeans or shorts and a t-shirt.

So, like you I have things to work on too. I have identified an opportunity and will make plans to work on it.

Now that doesn’t mean im going to go out and buy a fancy wardrobe. That isn’t me, I like comfortable clothes and don’t really care about impressing others, its more about being confident in whatever I am wearing. So, I am ok with my shorts and a t-shirt as long as I am happy. And I want you to be the same. Dress in whatever makes you happy and confident.

Finally, you need to believe in yourself and your ability to make these things happen for you. Henry Ford said, that if you think you can or you can’t, you’re right. Don’t quit before you even start and once you start never give up.

Napoleon Hill argued: While very little is known about our brains, and subsequently our minds, one thing is very certain. Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve, no matter what the present circumstances or obstacles surrounding a situation.

You have to truly work on using positive encouraging words to yourself. Words like I can, or I will, words that don’t give doubt or negativity any wiggle room. And I can tell you from my own experience doubt is a very strong adversary and will find your weakness. It will never quit and will even use other people to try and break your spirits.

A mind that is not positive, and I don’t want to say negative because I have spoken to a lot of people that use words subconsciously. They aren’t negative per say but definitely don’t encourage a positive mindset.

Its like having a glass of water and me asking you how much poison can I put in your water before you drink it. Obviously you would say none, you wouldn’t allow me to add any poison in your drink. You have to have that same response to the poison you put in your mind.

I want to leave you with this last thought. Patience’s teaches persistence, persistence drives your success.

Please be patience with yourself and your goals. Give yourself timelines but make it reasonable and understand that setbacks will happen, you will stumble, and you will doubt yourself. But that’s all ok, as long as we get back up and tell the doubt to leave your mind and fill it with positivity, we’ll be fine.

Everybody who has ever accomplished anything has gone through the same opportunities. Its not impossible, as long as you never ever quit. Work hard for yourself, you deserve it.
